Self Publishing_The Stencil
Todays workshop was related to war and specifically in France, May 1968. General strikes and occupation of universities and factories brought its entire economy to a halt. There were protests that spurred an artistic movement, with songs, graffiti, posters, slogans and also intense violence. It is still considered as a cultural, social and moral turning point in the history of the country.
Today was about combining some of the imagery of those posters and graphic art, with the lyrics of The Stone Roses 'Bye Bye Badman' a song which references the uprising, using the lyrics as typographic content.
I created the stencil first and then the typography which was then painted one on top of the other, I created the soldier silhouette first and then chose another object, the television. With this I created a scene that would be typically set with a television, just to take a different approach and outcome.
